Supporting Those Who Serve
Behind the Scenes
While our sworn officers are out protecting San Bernardino every day, there’s another group working quietly—and selflessly—behind the scenes. The Citizens Volunteer Unit and Volunteer Chaplain Program are made up of everyday people who give their time, energy, and hearts to support our department, officers, and community.
These volunteers ask for nothing in return—only the chance to give back. But their ability to serve depends on the support we give them.
Volunteer Chaplain Program
Our police chaplains provide:
-
Spiritual and emotional support for officers and their families
-
Guidance and care during critical incidents, deaths, and community crises
-
Compassionate presence at crime scenes and tragedies
-
Outreach to victims, families, and underserved populations
Chaplains respond 24/7—offering comfort, prayer, and peace in the most difficult moments.

Citizen's Volunteer Unit (CVU)
These highly trained civilian volunteers assist with:
-
Traffic control during emergencies and public events
-
Neighborhood patrols and park surveillance
-
Vehicle transports, clerical support, and crime prevention efforts
-
Special operations that free up sworn officers to respond to critical calls
All of this is done without pay, uniforms, or equipment provided by the city budget.
Help Us Help Them
Your donation provides uniforms, training, equipment, radios, and support supplies for these volunteers—ensuring they can continue their service safely, professionally, and with dignity.
These volunteers may not wear a badge, but they embody the heart of our department. With your help, we can make sure their efforts are recognized, resourced, and ready to continue.
